A punctuation pass for a fictional reading-space introduction.
Fictional source passage and suggested edit, created for this study.
The brief
The sample introduces a quiet shared reading room. The exercise is to remove an unnecessary interruption without changing the warmth of the invitation.
The decision
A comma between “books” and “and the people” separates two closely linked objects. Removing it lets the sentence read as one invitation. A proofreading pass marks this local correction rather than rewriting the whole paragraph.
